JWF History - New Beginnings
It’s March 2007 as I write this, and there have been a lot of changes within the JWF over the last 14 months, both in and out off the ring.
In the ring, we’ve seen the retirement of Screwball, Anarchy Alex, Sphinx and Phoenix, as well as the temporary retirement of The Punisher, who is looking to make his in-ring return after being absent since Home Is Where the Hurt Is 4. In possibly the most emotional title win in JWF history, the Underdog Pete Vicious won the JWF World Title, and retained the belt through HIWTHI 4, Wick, and appeared in the main event every show in 2006. New faces were seen, in the form of Bill-Dozer, Refmo, the monster Karn, and the new tag team of Dan Dryland and Rose, as well as the return of Epic, and the in-ring return (after a long injury) of Nexus. We also headlined Wick Festival for the 2nd occasion.
In a fitting climax to the year, 6 of the most experienced competitors within the JWF (Nexus, Se7en, Sphinx, Beast, Anarchy Alex and Pete) competed in a TLC match in the main event of Birthday Bumps – an event which marked 5 years as a company – for the World Title. Perhaps most fittingly, the title was won by Se7en, after Nexus stepped back and let him take the belt for himself.
In early 2007 though, the company was rocked to it’s foundations by out of ring changes – the owners (and founders) of the JWF, Richard Williamson (Ricky 7) and Owen Richards (Neno Cross) decided the time was right to step back from the day to day running of the company, and Alex Phillips (Anarchy Alex) and Luke Higgins (Hardcore Higgins) have decided that they will step down after HIWTHI 5. The company is now in the hands of the roster, with Rob Finney and Steve Crane (Nexus) currently taking care of the day to day business.
I’m sure I speak for everyone when I offer my thanks to Richard, Owen and Luke, for the platform that they have given us to build from, and the legacy they have left behind.
Now it’s time for us to make things bigger and better than ever before – let’s get on with 2007!
Next? Who Knows
